MPIA Fellowship and Postdoctoral Research Positions in Germany 2019

The Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (MPIA) in Heidelberg is seeking up applications for several postdoctoral positions, to pursue innovative research projects within the scientific context of the Galaxies and Cosmology department.

The Max Planck Society conducts basic research in the natural sciences, life sciences, and humanities. Since its foundation in 1948, eighteen Nobel laureates have emerged from its ranks. The Max Planck Society with its 84 Max Planck Institutes and facilities is the international flagship for German science: in addition to five foreign institutions, it operates another 17 Max Planck Centers with research institutions such as the Princeton University in the USA, the Paris University Science Po in France, the University College London in the UK, and the University of Tokyo in Japan. Equally funded by federal and state governments, the Max Planck Society had an annual budget of 1.6 billion Euros in 2016.Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.

The MPIA provides a stimulating work environment, and funds for publications, computing, travel, etc. Remuneration will be on the German public sector scale (TVOED level E13/E14) and depends on qualification and experience. Social benefits are granted according to the regulations for public service

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Applicants should have a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, or a closely related field. The appointments will be for three or four years, depending on research group. The starting dates are expected to be no later than autumn 2019; earlier dates may be possible for individual positions. The MPIA provides a stimulating work environment, and funds for publications, computing, travel, etc. Remuneration will be on the German public sector scale (TVOED level E13/E14), and depends on qualification and experience.
